What is "milkbaby"?

The term, milkbaby, is a nickname referring to an active, healthy-looking, strong, young woman.  Originally used in Southern California, to describe a vibrant girl, who looked like she  "drank her milk."  The nickname inspired the designer to create a swimwear line for these young women and soon MilkBaby Bikini Company was born.

Where did we start?

MilkBaby Bikini Company was started by an Iowa State Apparel Design graduate, originally from Montana, named Catherine Thordarson.  A competitive swimmer, surfer, lifeguard, swim instructor and beach bum, at heart, with a passion for travel, began a quest to create perfect-fitting bikinis for every unique body type, without compromising style. 

"As I traveled, I realized that there was a serious need for swimwear that fits and actually flatters real women. What I also found lacking, was variety in unique bikinis suitable for resort wear or to take on vacation.  My mission has been to create cutting edge designs while empowering women of all shapes and sizes to feel confident enough to wear a bikini and proudly show off their natural curves."

What is our philosophy?

At MilkBaby, our philosophy is that everyone should be able to wear a bikini, regardless of their body type.  We want women to feel confident in their own skin, even when they are showing skin. 
We believe that looking and feeing good in a bikini can change the way a women looks at herself.  Our mission is to create swimwear, not only designed to look flattering on real women, but to stand out in a crowd, with the innovative style and special details.
